Hotels & Resorts
The
upscale hotel market is rapidly on the rise, and many large four- and five-star
hotels and resorts are popping up in San José and around the coastal
hot-spots. Costa Rica's forte, however, is the intermediately-priced hotel
room, ranging in nightly room rate from about US$60 to US$100. While surprisingly
outstanding accommodations can be found at this price level, these are the
most varying and unpredictable of the hotel categories. For the budget-traveler
there are myriad hotels and hostels that charge less than US$60 a night. At
the very low end, these accommodations can feature communal bathrooms, cold-water
showers, and even showers that are heated in a bucket by electric heating
coils.
