Getting Around


Located within the Central American isthmus, access to Costa Rica is easy from all over the world. The Carretera Interamericana Road (Interamerican Highway) is open year-round and is used by visitors from all over the Americas, including the United States, Canada and other Latin American countries. Together with ports on both coasts and two international airports, visitors are able to travel to Costa Rica by numerous means.
If you are not wanting to walk to every destination within Costa Rica, you'll need to either rent a car, or use the available transportation. Here's what you need to know to get around using buses, taxis, ferries and domestic flights.
